I had been meaning to check out The Steel Yard for awhile now, as it’s been a place I’ve seen posting interesting things on social media and in discussions with friends. The opportunity to head down presented itself in the 9th Annual Iron Pour which had a mad science theme. I was able to meet up with a few friends and new acquaintances to enjoy the spectacle. I didn’t know what to expect, but it was an enjoyable night. There were quite a few people there, so it was hard to have a good sense of what was going on if you were on the fringes. It was also hard to hear the music very well from where we stood on the sidelines, but then again we could converse easily with those around us. The collective “oooooooooo’s” made sure that you didn’t miss the action when it was happening. Thankfully some of the front row space cleared out before the end, so we could easily see them pouring the iron and move it around the yard. It was definitely an intense process, so don’t expect a fast paced type of entertainment. I’m glad that I went with a group of people to talk during the lulls with. I would also like to actually explore The Steel Yard during the daytime as it was hard to get a sense of the space. Thankfully they offer tours on the first Wednesday of the month!
